My name is Robert Tamer, I'm 41 years old, and I live in southern Germany.
Back in 1994 I had surgery on my spine. Nothing fancy, went in, came back out. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.
In June 2001 my best friend Maik died. I had gone into a deep state of depression and didn't know what to do, so I began to study the paranormal and the afterlife. I didn't just want to find a way to speak with him, but more to know if he was ok. Then, from the thousand of photos that I have, it was not until he died that "things" began to appear on them. The more I learned, the more I began to understand. I believe this was my real "awakening" into the spiritual world.
But then something happened that wasn't so easy for me to explain.
In February 2002 I had to have another operation on my spine. It should have been a two hour operation, but turned out to be five and a half hours.
During the operation I found myself on a small portion of the graveyard with Maiks' grave to my left, approximately 4 or 5 meters. The total area must have been about 15-20 meters wide and 10-15 deep. Maik and I were sitting on a bench, him to my right. It was very bright, like the best day of summer, just warm and bright. Now I have had pain for the last 8 years, and I remember thinking while I was sitting there that for the first time there was no pain. Then it dawned on me that when I looked out in any direction that it was dark. Too dark. I then stood up and walked to the edge in front of me, looked out, down, and up. It was totally black. When I looked back at Maik it was very bright, like daytime. I remember walking to the left past his grave and then to the edge. Again I looked out, down, and up. Totally black. I can only describe it as a being on a piece of paper hanging in the middle of a dark room. I then walked back to the bench and sat down with him again. It was so peaceful. We just sat there on the bench. I know we talked for a long time, I just don't remember from what. It seemed as if we were there for ages. Then I woke up.
I later found out that I had bled profusely on the table.
I don't remember how I came to this place with Maik, and I don't remember going back. I was just there, and then I was gone.
Over 1 year later, in May 2003, I landed on your site. I have read nearly
everything on here, and suddenly I found myself reading about my own
experience. This was the first time I had read anything about near-death.
I'm not asking that this be published, I'm asking that this be explained if
possible. After reading through the conclusions about "void", everything
that I saw passes to what was written there. I also had two more operations
on my spine since then in the beginning of July 2003. Nothing out of the
ordinary happened. Did I just dream this during the operation, or was this
real? What does the term "Spirit within a Spirit" mean?
Kevin Williams' reply:
Thanks for your correspondence and sharing your NDE
with me. Yes, what you described is the "void". Your void
experience sounds very wonderful as most people's are (or at least the
ones that get reported). In fact, your description of the void is a very
good one. People often meet family and friends in the void because it is a
good place to experience your own feelings and awareness without being
influenced too much by the ecstasy of being fully in the light.
I have an opinion concerning what you mean by
"spirit within a spirit": While alive on Earth, our conscious
mind plays the #1 ruling awareness. Our subconscious mind (soul)
plays a lesser #2 awareness role and our superconscious mind (spirit)
plays an even lesser #3 awareness.
At death, our conscious mind (our personality,
much of which comes from our brain) dies, and our subconscious mind (soul)
plays the role of our ruling #1 awareness. At this time, the
superconscious mind (spirit) plays the role of the next lesser
awareness #2 role (or the role the subconscious mind had while on
Earth).
In other words, after death, you leave your physical
body which was your "vehicle" while on Earth. Now you are in a
new "vehicle" which is your soul body (astral body). Your
soul body is the vehicle for your spirit body. At this point you are like
a "spirit within a spirit." Here on Earth, we have a trinity of
bodies: physical, soul, and spirit.
When we reach the higher levels of consciousness and
into the Wholeness of the One, we actually absorb or discard our soul body
and are pure spirit, our Higher Self, who we REALLY are. We are then
in the fullness of the light of God and actually "merge" with
the light or "become one", once again, with the light.
Some people have actually experienced this during a NDE and they describe it as "becoming God" or "becoming
everything". Often words cannot describe this experience. As a pure
spirit in the light of God, we do not lose our individuality either. We
become an individual that is also "the Whole". Mathematicians
call this concept of being a part of the Whole, yet also being the Whole,
a "fractal". Perhaps we are like a spirit within a spirit.
That's my 2 cents worth. Hope this helps.
